January Favorites

My first favorite of the month isn't a product, but rather something I've been doing. For just a couple weeks, I've been learning to code using Khan Academy. Right now I'm learning Java Script and I'm really enjoying it. The way Khan Academy teaches it is kind of childish but it's really easy to understand.

I'd been playing around with the idea of learning to code for a while because my school offers a Computer Science Principles class that I wanted to take. (I ended up taking AP Calculus because of college applications, but I've ended up really liking Calculus.) My boyfriend does programming and while he's not the reason I started doing it, it's nice to be able to better understand something he loves so much.

Favorite Books
Passenger by Alexandra Bracken (I've already posted a review of it on the blog)
Any Other Girl by Rebecca Phillips
The Fixer by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
The Naturals Series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Music
Acoustic Covers (especially Megan Davies)
Alessia Cara
Blue Neighborhood by Troye Sivan

I also apparently really love Mortal Kombat, which I did not expect, but it's great playing it with my boyfriend and his little brothers.

January was all in all a pretty packed and strange month, but I'm really looking forward to the rest of the year.

2017 Favorites

This is going to be a round up of my favorite books, shows, and just general things of the year. I'm also going to include some of my hopes and goals for 2018.  Favorite Books of the Year The Star-Touched Queen  by Roshani Chokshi          This book was inspired by Hindu stories and tells the story of Maya who has been cursed by a bad horoscope her whole life. When she's 17, her father finally finds someone who is willing to marry her and she is whisked away to a kingdom like no other she has ever seen before.            The immediate description I think for this book is that it is absolutely beautifully written. The prose is gorgeously lyrical and richly written. Reading this book is a sensory experience like no other. I'm not someone who generally visualizes things as I was reading because that's not the way I think, but the details in this book were so beautiful and rich that I couldn't help but appreciate...

The Inconceivable Life of Quinn by Marianna Baer

Release Date: April 4, 2017 Publisher: Amulet Books I received this book after requesting it from NetGalley. Official Synopsis: Quinn Cutler is sixteen and the daughter of a high-profile Brooklyn politician. She’s also pregnant, a crisis made infinitely more shocking by the fact that she has no memory of ever having sex. Before Quinn can solve this deeply troubling mystery, her story becomes public. Rumors spread, jeopardizing her reputation, her relationship with a boyfriend she adores, and her father’s campaign for Congress. Religious fanatics gather at the Cutlers’ home, believing Quinn is a virgin, pregnant with the next messiah. Quinn’s desperate search for answers uncovers lies and family secrets—strange, possibly supernatural ones. Might she, in fact, be a virgin? Review: I got through this book really quickly and I really enjoyed it. I read it in long blocks and never got bored of it. I would've read it all in one night but I've been sick and I needed to go t...

My Current Reading Slump

If you've looked at my blog recently, you've probably noticed that it's been a while since I last made a post. I'm a bit disappointed in myself, but I don't plan to let this be a trend that continues. I've had some trouble finishing books lately. Around Christmas, I had just started a book about Mary, Queen of Scots called The Wild Queen  by Carolyn Meyer and it was really interesting. But then I got sick and I didn't have the concentration to keep reading. Even once I'd recovered, I got swept up in the activity of the holidays and it came time for me to return the book to the library. Hopefully one day I'll get my hands on a copy once again and finally finish it. For Christmas I got gift cards to Books A Million and I thought this would be the key to getting me reading again, that I would buy new books and spend the rest of the break from school reading and my blog would be more active than ever. This was most certainly not the case. I did buy b...
