February Favorites

Unfortunately, my favorites are a little light this month, both because February is a short month and because I've been super busy (as always). Normally I would split my favorites into different categories, but this month I don't think I have enough to really do that. So here goes.

  • Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard
    • Glass Sword is the sequel to Red Queen and I've absolutely been loving it. If you read my review, you know how much I loved Red Queen, but Glass Sword is, without a doubt, even better. It's better in every way. The writing in general is better because writers get better with practice, but I especially noticed a difference in the pacing. If you liked Red Queen, but weren't entirely sold on it, I would absolutely recommend picking up a copy of Glass Sword
  • Here by Alessia Cara
    • One of my Valentine's day presents was an iTunes gift card and I'd been wanting to buy new music for a while, but didn't really know what I wanted to buy. Then, I remembered hearing Alessia Cara's single "Here" on the radio and loving it. Her voice has a really great quality to it and while I can't sing, I don't feel as intimidated when I sing along with her. I'm not entirely sure what it is about her voice.
  • Stromae
    • Stromae is a Belgian artist. I found him after my boyfriend showed me the version of his song "Papaoutai" that features Angel Haze, who I love. At first I was resistant because Stromae's music is in French and I know absolutely no French, but then I couldn't get it out of my head and ended up buying the whole album despite myself.
  • Laptop Stickers
    • I've wanted to put stickers on my laptop for a while but have been afraid to because my laptop is really clean and grey looking and I didn't want to ruin it. But then my boyfriend put some of his art on Redbubble and I had to buy a sticker from him and this was just the push I needed to put some stickers on my computer. I bought a couple more in addition to his and now they're all on my laptop and I'm really happy with it.
    • If any of you want to take a look at his stuff, you can find him here.

Spring Reads 2019

I'm coming up to the end of my semester which is a relief. The most exciting part is that I'll finally have time to read! I'm also planning on finally playing some of the video games that the Internet and my boyfriend have been telling me to play for forever.  I thought I would share with y'all the books I'm most looking forward to reading as soon as my exams are over.  Also, for the sake of transparency, the links in this post are affiliate links to Amazon. These don't change the price for you, but I do get a percentage of the cost of anything you buy through the link. It would be great if you used these links, but please feel free to buy these books however you want or get them at your local library.  I Wish You All the Best by Mason Deaver May 28, 2019 Buy from Amazon When Ben De Backer comes out to their parents as nonbinary, they're thrown out of their house and forced to move in with their estranged older sister, Hannah, and her husb...

June Favorites

Doing It by Hannah Witton I've unfortunately only been watching Hannah's videos for about six months now, but once I started I never looked back. That's why I knew I had to pick up her book, Doing It . It's a fun book that focuses on sex and relationships education for teens and young adults. Because a lot of it is written from her perspective it does at time skew more feminine, but I think it's a great resource for people of all genders. Witton includes both personal anecdotes and social advice, but she also gives anatomical information and scientific advice. She talks about reproductive systems as they are and work biologically, rather than as connected to a person of a certain gender, because she acknowledges that these do not always align. Something else she does to ensure the book is as inclusive as possible is having guest contributors. When there was a topic Hannah wanted to cover but didn't have experience with, she had a friend or an expert write a ...

My Current Reading Slump

If you've looked at my blog recently, you've probably noticed that it's been a while since I last made a post. I'm a bit disappointed in myself, but I don't plan to let this be a trend that continues. I've had some trouble finishing books lately. Around Christmas, I had just started a book about Mary, Queen of Scots called The Wild Queen  by Carolyn Meyer and it was really interesting. But then I got sick and I didn't have the concentration to keep reading. Even once I'd recovered, I got swept up in the activity of the holidays and it came time for me to return the book to the library. Hopefully one day I'll get my hands on a copy once again and finally finish it. For Christmas I got gift cards to Books A Million and I thought this would be the key to getting me reading again, that I would buy new books and spend the rest of the break from school reading and my blog would be more active than ever. This was most certainly not the case. I did buy b...
