Books Are Expensive

I've always been someone who buys a lot of books. But I'm also still not able to buy as many books as I'd like to. Usually I'll get some money or have a gift card and buy a bunch and then not be able to buy any for a long time. I'll buy a book here or there from Amazon, but mostly that's it. I'm not constantly going to the bookstore the way other book bloggers always seem to. One reason for this is the fact that I live about an hour from the nearest book store.

Books can also be pretty expensive. Luckily YA books are generally cheaper than, say, literary fiction. This weekend, I went to the bookstore and picked up Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare. Normally YA hardbacks are about $18. It was only after I'd gotten to the register that I realized Lady Midnight is for some reason $25. I still bought it because I wanted to review it, but I almost didn't have enough money.

This is why you haven't seen me doing any book hauls. I just don't have the money. But I'm still a blogger. And my blog is small, but it's growing. If any of you want to be bloggers but are hesitating because of the money, don't let it stop you. Borrow books from the library and from your friends. There are also great websites like thriftbooks which will allow you to buy high quality books for low prices. Don't try to work outside of your budget, but don't think you can't blog just because you have a smaller budget.

I Forgot How to Write

Photo by  NeONBRAND  on  Unsplash In high school, I studied Creative Writing. This entailed writing and reading and talking about writing for three hours every day. After graduation, I purposefully took a break from writing. I still loved it, but I was so spent. I needed to give my brain room to breathe. That's part of why I'm not majoring in English or writing even though I love both subjects. I love psychology just as much and I wanted to learn new things. So for a while I didn't write anything for myself. I've never read as much as the year in like tenth grade where I read 108 books. Even after I graduated high school and had more time on my hands. I started working a lot and have never had that same time and I've also picked up new activities (gaming, knitting, watching things I never got to living in the woods) that take up time that could ...

2017 Favorites

This is going to be a round up of my favorite books, shows, and just general things of the year. I'm also going to include some of my hopes and goals for 2018.  Favorite Books of the Year The Star-Touched Queen  by Roshani Chokshi          This book was inspired by Hindu stories and tells the story of Maya who has been cursed by a bad horoscope her whole life. When she's 17, her father finally finds someone who is willing to marry her and she is whisked away to a kingdom like no other she has ever seen before.            The immediate description I think for this book is that it is absolutely beautifully written. The prose is gorgeously lyrical and richly written. Reading this book is a sensory experience like no other. I'm not someone who generally visualizes things as I was reading because that's not the way I think, but the details in this book were so beautiful and rich that I couldn't help but appreciate...

Spring Reads 2019

I'm coming up to the end of my semester which is a relief. The most exciting part is that I'll finally have time to read! I'm also planning on finally playing some of the video games that the Internet and my boyfriend have been telling me to play for forever.  I thought I would share with y'all the books I'm most looking forward to reading as soon as my exams are over.  Also, for the sake of transparency, the links in this post are affiliate links to Amazon. These don't change the price for you, but I do get a percentage of the cost of anything you buy through the link. It would be great if you used these links, but please feel free to buy these books however you want or get them at your local library.  I Wish You All the Best by Mason Deaver May 28, 2019 Buy from Amazon When Ben De Backer comes out to their parents as nonbinary, they're thrown out of their house and forced to move in with their estranged older sister, Hannah, and her husb...
