My Most Anticipated Releases of Fall 2017

Now that it's getting into August and I start sophomore year of college in a few weeks, I'm looking forward to fall and winter. I'm looking forward to wearing sweaters, partially because last winter was so mild in Alabama that I barely wore any of the sweaters I got for Christmas. I'm also looking forward to some cozy fall reading. Not all books released in the fall are particularly autumnal, but some of them are and I love a good seasonal book. I'm sure I'll be rereading some of my cozy favorites (Harry Potter), but I'm also looking forward to some new books coming out this fall.

These are in no particular order, but I made sure they're all either very recently released or upcoming so that you won't have already read them. While I am trying to diversify my reading and read about important issues, these are all books I am genuinely planning on buying and reading.

These are the ones I'm looking forward to the most: (photos and descriptions taken from Epic Reads or Amazon)

Genuine Fraud by E. Lockhart (September 5, 2017)

The story of a young woman whose diabolical smarts are her ticket into a charmed life. But how many times can someone reinvent themselves? You be the judge.

Imogen is a runaway heiress, an orphan, a cook, and a cheat. Jule is a fighter, a social chameleon, and an athlete. An intense friendship. A disappearance. A murder, or maybe two. A bad romance, or maybe three. Blunt objects, disguises, blood, and chocolate. The American dream, superheroes, spies, and villains. A girl who refuses to give people what they want from her. A girl who refuses to be the person she once was.

Beasts Made of Night by Tochi Onyebuchi (October 31, 2017)

This is a Nigerian-inspired fantasy, which is something I've never read before. From the synopsis, it seems dark and it comes out on Halloween so I think I'll be preordering it and reading it on the day it comes out since I don't really do much for Halloween, but still like to have some candy and feel a bit spooky.

Official synopsis:
Debut author Tochi Onyebuchi delivers an unforgettable fantasy adventure that powerfully explores the true meaning of justice and guilt. Packed with dark magic and thrilling action, Beasts Made of Night is a gritty Nigerian-influenced fantasy perfect for fans of Paolo Bacigalupi and Nnedi Okorafor. In the walled city of Kos, corrupt mages can magically call forth sin from a sinner in the form of sin-beasts—lethal creatures spawned from feelings of guilt.

I Forgot How to Write

Photo by  NeONBRAND  on  Unsplash In high school, I studied Creative Writing. This entailed writing and reading and talking about writing for three hours every day. After graduation, I purposefully took a break from writing. I still loved it, but I was so spent. I needed to give my brain room to breathe. That's part of why I'm not majoring in English or writing even though I love both subjects. I love psychology just as much and I wanted to learn new things. So for a while I didn't write anything for myself. I've never read as much as the year in like tenth grade where I read 108 books. Even after I graduated high school and had more time on my hands. I started working a lot and have never had that same time and I've also picked up new activities (gaming, knitting, watching things I never got to living in the woods) that take up time that could otherwise be spent reading. And I'm mostly okay with that.  I think I've l
